Politics by Mary Ellen Bacalso

Politics refers to the exercise power of the governance. The word had its roots in Greeks politikos which means “for citizens”. It is always associated with power in administering & organizing a society, group, government, church, etc. An exercise of power in any of these politics is constituted in so called “political system”.
Political system is the system power of governance. It is often described with economic system, cultural system, religious system or legal system. It is constituted by the members of the organization, by-laws and politicizes in the management and administration, and mechanism for maintain order & out of order of the organization.
Types of political system. • Authoritarianism – it is a dictorial form of government. For example, people like Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines.
• Monarchy – it is opposite to democracy & republic since monarchical government allows monarch to rule a state until his death or abdication. In medieval monarchy, a monarch is the ultimate ruler of the state including legislation and judiciary but in the modern monarchy, a monarch is not a leader of state as in Spain, England, or Denmark.
• Democracy – it allows the individuals to participate in the government. The 2 types of democracy are direct democracy and representative democracy. o Direct democracy – where citizens are entitled for participation in the government. o Representative democracy – where citizens elect their representatives for governance
• Communism – a state envision by Karl Marx then followed by Russia in the 19th century, China and Cuba in the 20th century, and etc. It’s as synonymous with complete authoritarianism reflects in many writings, famous of which is George Orwell’s 1984 published in 1949.
• Republic – allowing the citizens to legitimize (to make something legal or to make it acceptable, permissible or correct.) in the government. Republic may relate with the representative democracy and opposite to authoritarian rule. Republic conflicts with its nature in as much as Republic countries are often ruled by oligarchs, which mean few-citizens-rule, like in the Philippines, America, etc.
Our country is under the political system democracy where citizens are entitled for the participation of government & where citizens elect the representatives for the government. It is stated that politics came from then politikos which means "for citizens." Now a days, as we look upon our politicians, can we really say that there doings are all for the citizens? Do they do provide a clear liquidation where our taxes or money goes? No. Do they protect and give justice to the people equally especially the poor? No. Do they provide service to those people who can’t afford education? No. I really don’t know why our country still collects taxes from the people cause for all I know is that taxes are implemented in order to improve the lives of the Filipinos and also the country. But can you really see the improvement? Our society or country's system has not effectively help most of the Filipinos in the Philippines. Until now, the country Philippines is still considered as one of the most corrupt system in the whole country. How can you expect our political system to change when most of the political problems come from our own government authorities. If they could only do the political system democracy properly at least there would be a difference in this country.

  2. Basically our country is corrupt. The politicians aren't really doing much to make our country a better place. The government authorities should at least try to stop thinking about themselves and start opening their eyes to the realities of our country.

  3. The people aren't wise enough to vote for the right people for the government. People are blinded by the money a political candidate can show, for example, the popularity a politician had gained from paying a political ad.

  4. People treat elections these days as a popularity contest rather than what it is really supposed to be. Elections are for us to choose the right leaders for our country. Politicians often forget that they aren't above us, they work for us! So why should we have to suffer for their incompetence?

  6. We are all complaining about how corrupt our officials are, but it is us who put them in their positions in the first place. However, we have the chance to start anew with a brand new set of officials during the election next year. Hopefully, we elect competent officials this time around.

  7. Philippine politics is curious and intriguing, interesting and entertaining, and particularly detestable as well as disgusting. Philippine politics is not simply for the vicious but also for the avaricious, not merely for those wanting to serve but the more so, for those wanting to be served much and well. Philippine politics is the origin of wonderful promises and as well as the cause of big disappointments productive of misery and poverty.

  9. n choosing officials, we should think twice if that person could help our economy for it is us who control the society. We vote for them because we want a better society. And if our officials today are corrupt and not really effective, it is the fault of those who chose the person to lead our country. But if we avoid this, we might change what society is facing today.

  10. It is a democratic country which means that we are the ones choosing our own leaders. It is not entirely the fault of those officials. We also should take the blams because we are the ones responsible in putting them in their positions. We should start thinking of who to vote rather than just picking whoever.

  11. I agree with you, I can't see the improvements that were suppose to happen in our country from paying our taxes. It's really sad to know that they are the people who we chose as leaders. We MUST choose our leaders who posses the characteristic, transparency.

  12. Ultimately, people should not fear the government but rather, the government should fear the people since our country practices democracy. The people have the right to choose, elect and impeach officials who have not been performing their duties and responsibilities efficiently.

  14. If only government officials would serve us the proper way our country would be progressive and those unenducated students could receive a free education and then people in poverty will decrease and most of us filipinos will be sucessful. I hope in this coming election, voters would be wise enough to vote wisely.

  15. If only we would be wise enough to choose the right leaders to improve our economy, corruption and poverty wouldn't happen in our country. We are the source of it, not the government. Why? Again, it is because we are the ones who put them in the place they are in right now. We have to stop being so ignorant about our country and do something about this corruption and poverty.
